The partnership between Workz Group and Econet Zimbabwe has spawned the rising of the new innovative idea that offers Zimbabwean subscribers network connectivity via embedded SIM (eSIM Technology) devices such as the iPhone XS/XR/11 and Microsoft Surface Pro X. With it, users will be able to connect to Econet’s network without having a physical SIM and this was announced on the 6th of November, 2019. This announcement was made due to the completion of successful network trials using Workz Technology with a market launch expected in the coming months. This collaboration between the two industries is expected to make Zimbabwe the second country in Africa to adopt the next generation SIM technology.
An estimation was given by “Markets and Markets” that the eSIM market will most definitely grow from about $300 million in 2018 to over $1 billion in 2023 with hyper-adoption expected after the launch of several new customer eSIM devices from Apple and Samsung and several other manufacturers that plan to join.
In a report by Counterpoint, Workz has been acknowledged as one of the world’s leaders in the eSIM technology as it has started comparable projects across North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East about 12 months ago. It is the first GSMA-certified full eSIM provider in Africa and the Middle East and it’s also one among six in the world to carry out such an accreditation.
Managing Director of the Middle East and Africa for Workz, Tor Malmros had this to say:
We expect eSIM technology will make a significantly positive impact on people’s lives and we hope Econet Zimbabwe subscribers can start enjoying this enhanced experience very soon.
“For this project, we have had the benefit of working with a strong partner in Workz, which with the support of their incredible technical team has allowed us to complete comprehensive development and testing in a highly efficient timeframe”.
