Organizers of the Nigerian Fintech Awards have selected four institutions and nine individuals for special recognition. This is to celebrate their contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian fintech industry.
According to a statement by the organizers of the award, some of the awardees were founders of fintech companies existing for over three decades. Others include a few unicorns, and startups, valued at $1bn and above.
Financial institutions were also not left out and they include Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc and Shared Agent Network Expansion Facilities. On the also are Ecobank Plc, and Digital Encode, a digital encode is a cyber security firm in Africa involved in the cyber security space in Nigeria.

Fintech Awards for Individuals
Diving into individual recognition, the organizers chose to look beyond just the companies/institutions but also to award the brains behind the success. The 10 individuals recognized are:
- Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Sterling Bank Plc, Abubakar Suleiman.
- The founder and Executive Vice Chairman, of Computer Warehouse Group Plc, Austin Okere
- The co-founder and CEO of Precise Financial Systems, Dr. Yele Okeremi
- Founder of Future Africa, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji
- Founder and Group CEO, Systemspecs Holdco, John Obaro
- Founder and CEO od SecureID, Mrs Kofo Akinkungbe
- Founder and Group CEO, of Interswitch Group Mitchell Elegbe
- Director, Payments System Policy and Oversight, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Musa Jimoh
- Co-founder and CEO, Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola
- Founder of Chams Plc, Ademola Aladekomo
The Award Explained
Speaking on this, the Director for the Nigerian Fintech Awards, Sola Fanawopo, said the special recognition is spread across a generation of dreamers. Not only the dreamers but the doers, and drivers of the industry in Nigeria.
“Some of the individuals recognized are founders of fincumbents that have been around for over two to three decades while the rest are founders of the new few unicorns,” he said.
