International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th every year to honor and recognize the achievements and contributions of women throughout history and across nations. The day also serves as a call for action towards empowerment for women in all areas of life, including education, politics, economics, and social and cultural spheres.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” with previous themes focusing on issues such as gender parity, women’s rights, and representation, women’s health, and the impact of women in leadership positions.
The day is marked by various activities and events such as rallies, conferences, marches, and cultural performances. It is also a day to reflect on the progress made toward gender equality and to raise awareness about the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender justice and empowerment for all women, regardless of their background or status.
This is why Prince Adeyemi Ajayi Foundation (PAAF) organized the International Women’s Day program which is open to female small business owners and content creators. The program features guest speakers like Ogunboye Bosede A.K.A Lepacious Bose, Adebola Zoe Williams, and Francisca Okwulehie.
Speaking on Digital wellness, Lepacious Bose, said it is a positive state of mind that brings about communities of people who have similar issues proffering the right solutions for each other. According to her, the beauty of digital wellness includes convenience, fewer subscriptions, and a community that proffers solutions to frustrations, depression, and mental health.
Referencing the founding of the digital age to COVID-19, she said it has been able to harness and access unlimited opportunities. To her, a lot of digital activities have been adopted such as the use of Zoom for meetings and other sports activities, the use of social media for awareness, and exposure to tools that people thought never existed.
Self-esteem is a thing for her since she began her career. It allowed her to exploit bigger opportunities which birthed her wellness and productivity journey. Speaking on her fitness journey, she said, she was formally 200kg but still carried herself with confidence while dying of low-self esteem on the inside. Nobody knew what she was going through but she was able to beat that space effortlessly.
She also advised the audience to watch their digital space, because the person they follow influences them. This allows you to set boundaries and also helps you maximize your time well.
Speaking on how to maximize your phone purposefully, she said there are a lot of skills, courses, and tools an individual can use to promote their businesses or companies, adding that a person does not have to be limited to only one option. According to her, there are various options to try or explore.
Concluding her session, she enjoined the audience to have valuable friendships, as this will help them later in life when things are not quite rosy for them, both in business and life. Not only that, she asks them to mute all social group notifications when having an important session either on business or personal, not doing so will lead to a mental breakdown and unproductivity.
Speaking on owning your space, another guest speaker, Fransisca Okwulehie, an Author and Creative Consultant said selling yourself should be your top priority so as not to miss bigger opportunities when it comes. This is because opportunity meets preparation. She urged the audience to be bold and confident to go for whatever they want or the change they need in their businesses or companies.
To buttress her point, she engaged the audience in a workshop session titled “I Am Remarkably Made” where everyone spoke about things they are proud of. They were also given a platform to pitch their products and why the audience should be interested.
She concluded by stating that asides from getting opportunities, we should also recommend those who are good in other fields. According to her to recommend such opportunities, you need to recommend.
