Jumia Kenya announced Charles Ballard’s appointment as the organisation’s new CEO yesterday.
He became the third CEO of the corporation when his appointment went into effect just over a month ago.
Charles Ballard, who was previously the deputy chief financial officer of the international humanitarian NGO ACTED, joined the Kenyan company in 2019 as the Head of Performance and Planning.
In 2021, he was elevated to Chief Operating Officer and given responsibility for planning and executing the company’s activities in Kenya because of his dedication to Jumia Kenya. In 2022, he was named Senior Vice President – Commercials.
Charles Ballard Response
“I am excited to continue driving the e-commerce narrative in rural Kenya, where more than 70% of the population lives. Access to Modern Retail is a challenge in these areas, which is a great opportunity to grow our online marketplace. E-commerce can bring better prices, more choices, and convenience to the rural Kenyans,” he said of his appointment.
CEOs of Jumia Kenya since November 2021
In November 2021, Betty Mwangi was chosen to take Sam Chappette’s place as CEO of Jumia Kenya. Before leaving the position only eight months after her employment, the company made enormous achievements in the Kenyan market, especially with partnerships.
Charles Ballard’s predecessor, Juan Seco, joined the business in 2015 and worked as its chief financial officer. He joined the JumiaPay founding team in 2017 as the Chief Operating Officer, then in 2019 he was appointed Senior Vice President of Consumer Financial Services. In July 2022, he was chosen to be the CEO.
