Spotify, the renowned music streaming platform, is bringing its AI-driven personalized music feature known as “DJ”, to various regions across the world, including Nigeria.
This expansion comes after its initial launch six months ago in North America, signifying a significant stride in accessibility.
The AI-powered DJ employs artificial intelligence to recommend personalized music tracks to listeners, supplemented by spoken-word commentary delivered through a synthetic voice.

In a recent blog post, Spotify unveiled the expansion, stating:
“DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well it can choose what to play for you. DJ provides a new and different way for fans and artists to connect.”
Essentially, this AI-driven DJ functions akin to a radio program host, curating content that resonates individually with each listener.
The initial voice model for DJ was based on Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan. Now, users in select global markets, including Nigeria, will have the option to enjoy commentary in English and receive personalized recommendations from their AI DJ.

Although the Spotify AI-powered DJ feature was initially introduced in North America, it soon extended to the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Now, Spotify is expanding access to premium subscribers in approximately 50 markets, which includes Nigeria, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana, Pakistan, Singapore, and South Africa. It’s important to note that the AI DJ experience is currently only available in English in these new markets.
