Airtel Nigeria, the country’s third-largest mobile operator in terms of subscriptions, unveiled its commercial 5G services on Monday at an event held in Lagos.
The Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Carl Cruz, emphasized that this launch is part of the network’s mission to make 5G services accessible to all Nigerians.
What Nigerians Should Anticipate With Airtel 5G
With Airtel’s introduction of 5G services, Nigeria now boasts three licensed providers offering this advanced technology, following the earlier announcements of MTN Nigeria and Mafab Communications.
Airtel revealed that its 5G services would initially be available in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The company’s CEO assured that subscribers would benefit from lightning-fast data services and enhanced offerings in sectors such as telemedicine and agriculture.
Presently, Airtel provides a connection fee of ₦30,000 for its 5G mobile network, which includes a bonus data allowance of up to 250 GB and an immediate 10 GB data upon activation. Additionally, users will receive a 100% bonus on plans valued at ₦10,000 and above for the first six months.
The newly launched 5G network is currently compatible with devices from Huawei, iPad, iPhone, Samsung, Tecno, and Xiaomi. Airtel Nigeria’s introduction of 5G aims to intensify competition within the Nigerian telecommunications market.
